Something Nice To Write In Wedding Card

Interview with Mr. A. Arraez, founding partner Aeroclub de Reus

photos copyright of Mr. A. Arráez & Aeroclub de Reus. All rights reserved.

H ace few days I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Mr. Angel Arraez John, a founding member of the Aeroclub de Reus and vocal on the first Board of the newly Entity Reus.

The conversation was always related to the history and early Aeroclub de Reus Airfield. He always spoke of Reus Airfield. Even now, after 75 years of that decision to start a flying club in Reus and an airdrome, Mr. Arraez, with its well lucid 98 years, remembered the details that make the story has all the wealth that is based on real facts counted from first hand, who lived with the same enthusiasm now than when performed in 1935, all the steps a group of friends, as he states, when referring to fellow aviation. A process that was completed on May 2, 1935.

- How did the idea of \u200b\u200bstarting a flying club in Reus?
- were a group of friends we had a great interest by aviation. We met to find a way to allow us to realize our dream: to found a flying club in Reus.

- This is done on 2 May 1935. But they had even an airfield. What did you do in this regard, during the period from 1935 to the Civil War in 1936, how it was this way?
- First picked the land that we believe would be feasible to build. The next step was to convince the farmers to sell or rent our land, and we got it, buy it. I also recall when the owners came to collect.

- Any step, while buying the land? I mean if you started work on the construction of the runway or other structures, before the Civil War.
- I recall, began construction of the track and also built a shed where they keep records and various utensils and tools. What is called even today as "baptism of the Air" We have performed for the first time in March 1935 in El Prat de Llobregat, before the foundation of the airfield, because I still could not do in Reus. The air traffic, as I recall, began with the Civil War. During 1936, the war began, we planned adaptation, building development and expansion of airfield facilities Reus, in the first meeting between General Aranguren and partners of the Aeroclub de Reus, and Mr. Joaquín Montagut, on the same grounds Aviation Field.

- Thank you for clarifying these important issues, sometimes even somewhat controversial, by historical gaps that occur in the history of the binomial Aeroclub de Reus - Reus airfield, at this time 1935 - 1936.

activities Aeroclub de Reus were paralyzed throughout the war and only resumed in 1948 when the airfield and was Franco's military air base. Since 1948, activities started again Aeroclub de Reus, purchased the first aircraft, was established Pilot School and resumed the "Baptism of Flight" from the aerodrome Reus (Reus Airfield), which years later become the present Reus Airport economic engine of Tarragona.

has been a pleasure talking with Mr. Arraez, whom I thank from these lines my gratitude and that of the Aeroclub de Reus, for agreeing, so kindly, to tell us your experiences and knowledge on part of our history of aviation in Reus, in which the Aeroclub de Reus, has a significant role.

Congratulations to our 75 th anniversary of the founding of the Aero Club, a reality made possible by the passion for aviation, people like Mr. Arráez and all his companions, friends who decided one day to have an airfield in Reus and succeeded, not without effort. Thanks and congratulations.
